Open Mic Night at Crossroads
Crossroads teens are loaded with talent! In January, 2011 Crossroads introduced a new program to invite kids to share their skills and show their stuff.
The Crossroads first open mic night was the result, and it was a night filled with music, poetry, prizes, camaraderie, and a true appreciation of the contributions made by teens and volunteers to make it a warm and enjoyable evening.
Crossroads volunteer/intern Rachelle Butt took on the project of turning the open mic night concept into reality. She spread the word about the event to teens at the center and encouraged many to participate. Other arrangements for the evening included facilitating the evening program itself, obtaining a sound system for the evening, refreshments for all, and a range of prizes and certificates to local establishments that were distributed throughout the show by drawing raffle tickets held by audience members and performers.
